Beginner - 2 Day
This two day beginners' course is intended for those new to woodworking or with limited experience. The focus will be on the fundamentals of woodworking including tool sharpening, sawing and planing and will solely be on the use of hand tools. The intention is for participants to gain a basic understanding of working with wood and to leave with confidence to move on to the next stage.
The day will begin with coffee or tea, introductions and - as with all courses - an explanation of working safely in the workshop.
This course really is about learning the basics. We will look at the sharpening of tools, the structure of timber and how it affects the way we work with it and then move onto the course project. You will prepare the timber using methods that are the backbone of woodworking and finally, finishing with sanding and oiling. There will be the opportunity to take a look at and use a variety of woodworking tools. This will give you experience and understanding in the basics of woodworking and by the end of the course you’ll have an item crafted by you to take home.
