Introduction to Woodworking - 2 Day

IMG_20190926_160037739_HDR.jpg

This two day course is intended for those new to woodworking or who wish to consolidate their existing experience. The focus will be on the fundamentals, including tool sharpening, sawing and planing and will solely be on the use of hand tools. The intention is for participants to gain a basic understanding of working with wood and to leave with confidence to move on to the next stage.

The day will begin with coffee or tea, introductions and - as with all courses - an explanation of working safely in the workshop.

This course really is about learning the basics. We will look at the sharpening of bladed tools, the structure of timber and how it affects the way we work with it and then move onto the course project. You will work the timber using methods that are the backbone of woodworking, before sealing and waxing the finished item. Throughout the two days there will be the opportunity to take a look at and use a variety of woodworking tools. This course will give you an experience and understanding in the basics of woodworking and, by the end of the course, you’ll have a beautiful item, hand-crafted by yourself to take home.

I participated in the 2 day workshop making a bookstand. I thoroughly enjoyed it. It was great to walk out with something but this was about the process of making something. I learned a lot, had fun, and really appreciate Steve’s expertise and teaching. I’d recommend this to anyone who would like to have a go at woodworking!
